Te Whare Whiri Toi

Te Whare Whiri Toi is a weaving group (incorporated society) based in Ahipara, the seaside community in the Far North of New Zealand.

Weavers from all over the North meet at Te Whare Whiri Toi to weave their creations, share talent and gather together. Te Whare Whiri Toi run monthly workshops which are based at Roma Marae and include painting, bone carving, weaving and oranga.

Te Whare Whiri Toi whakatauki or proverb to the left is an example of the underlying principles of this group which aims to provide a vehicle for spiritual, physical, economic development and sustainability, encouraging self determination through networks the arts and health.

The art is displayed and sold through Te Whare Whiri Toi gallery and workshop located on Roma Marae.

Our philosohpy

The aim of Te Whare Whiri Toi is to provide a vehicle for spiritual, physical, economic development and sustainability, with self determination through networks in support of the arts and health.
